What LactateLab does
LactateLab is a web app for sprint and track and field coaches and athletes that automates the repetitive side of training. The coach plans the season and writes each session once for the whole group; the app calculates every athlete's target pace for each rep and their gym loads from their goals, 1RM and bodyweight, and turns what athletes log into compliance, weekly load and performance trends. This page describes what the app does today and, at the end, what it doesn't do yet.
Season planning
A season in weeks
The season is generated week by week, Monday to Sunday (September to August). Each week is a microcycle with its type (low, medium or high load, impact, recovery, competition or contrast), planned sessions and notes.
Mesocycles and periods
Weeks are grouped into mesocycles with a focus (general accumulation, technique and acceleration, maximum velocity, competition…). Periods can optionally be marked too: preseason, general, specific, competitive or transition.
Calendar
Month and week views with the microcycle type colour-coded, track and gym sessions, and competitions with their importance.
Track sessions
Structured blocks
A session is made of blocks: simple sets (e.g. 5×300 m at 75 % with 4' recovery), pyramids, combined blocks with several sets and distances —even with a different intensity per distance, such as 5×(150 at 73 % – 200 at 77 %)—, gym, plyometrics and free text. A session can also be typed as plain text with the usual shorthand (5x300 75% r4', R8', G1:…) and converted automatically into blocks to review (Pro and Club plans).
For the whole group or by subgroup
Each block is assigned to the whole group or to one or more subgroups. A session can be repeated on several days of the same week and saved as a reusable template.
Session context
Every session has a start time. Track sessions automatically store the weather at that hour (temperature, feels-like, humidity, rain and wind). Descriptions can link group documents and videos.
Automatic target time for every athlete
Calculated for every rep
Each athlete enters their season goals for 60, 100, 200 and 400 m. From those, the app calculates their target time for every rep of every session, based on distance (30 to 500 m, with separate formulas for men and women) and prescribed intensity.
Training corrections
The calculation removes reaction time and hand-timing bias, and adds a correction for running in flats instead of spikes. Two athletes with very different goals can do the same session, each at their own pace.
Logging after the session
The athlete enters the time of each rep and their perceived effort (RPE 1-10). On saving they see, per distance, their average time and how far it was from their target.
Gym
Loads by %1RM, bodyweight or kg
Each exercise is prescribed as a percentage of the athlete's season 1RM, as a multiple of their bodyweight (optionally with a different value for women), as fixed kilos (with a separate range for women) or as free text. A target velocity can also be set for encoder work.
Target kg for every athlete
When logging, each athlete sees their own kilos, rounded to 2.5 kg. If a 1RM or their bodyweight is missing, the app tells them what to add.
1RM tests
An exercise marked as TEST automatically saves the athlete's logged maximum as their new mark, which is then used for percentage-based loads.
Results and progress
Track, strength and test marks
Competition and training marks with personal best (PB) and season best (SB). For strength, a table with each exercise's season 1RM and a warning for those needed by upcoming sessions. Flying 30 m, CMJ, RSI and standing horizontal jump tests (standing long jump, triple and ten-bound) with their progression. Evolution charts show the season goal.
Training progress
For the last week, the last 30 days or the season: real pace per distance against target, average deviation, compliance by intensity, and perceived effort by intensity with its weekly trend.
Actual weekly load
Track metres completed each week by intensity zone, with average RPE, on top of the planned microcycle type, plus track and gym sessions logged against those scheduled.
Group management
Athletes and subgroups
Invites by code or link, subgroups (e.g. G1, G2, G3), assistant coaches and a page per athlete with their goals, marks and progress.
Group results
For each block, a table of every athlete rep by rep, coloured by deviation from each one's target, with the group mean and spread. Also a group reference pace table and monthly compliance.
Documents and export
Shared group documents (images, PDF and XML). CSV and PDF export of planning, marks and sessions, per athlete or for the whole group.
Your data
Ownership and export
The training data you enter remains yours. You can export it to CSV and PDF at any time and request deletion of your account, completed within 30 days.
Where it is stored
The database and files are hosted in a data centre in Frankfurt (European Union). The site uses no advertising or tracking cookies.
On your phone
The app runs in the phone's browser and can be installed on the home screen. Available in Spanish, English and Italian, with light and dark mode.
What LactateLab doesn't do yet
So you can compare it with other tools without surprises:
- No device integrations: electronic timing (Freelap, Dashr…), encoders, force plates, watches or wearables. Data is entered manually.
- No CSV import and no public API.
- A session can't be modified for a single athlete: individualisation is done through subgroups and each athlete's own targets.
- No daily wellness questionnaire (sleep, fatigue, soreness).
- No perceived effort (RPE) or bar velocity logging in the gym, and no split times within a rep.
- No AI-based analysis.
Frequently asked questions
Who is LactateLab for?
Sprint and track and field coaches with groups of athletes, and the athletes themselves. It is built around the track: distances, times, intensities and recoveries, with gym work in the same plan.
How much does it cost?
There is a free plan for up to 2 athletes, a Pro plan at €19 a month for up to 15 athletes and a Club plan at €39 a month with unlimited athletes. Paid plans include a 14-day free trial and yearly billing gives you one month free. VAT included, no commitment.
How is each rep's target time calculated?
From the athlete's season goals for 60, 100, 200 and 400 m, the rep's distance and its intensity. 0.45 s is removed for reaction time and hand timing, and a correction is added when running in flats.
Do I need timing equipment?
No. It is designed for hand timing: targets already include the hand-timing correction and times are entered from the phone.
Can I export my data?
Yes, to CSV and PDF, per athlete or for the whole group: planning, marks and sessions.
Do athletes need an account?
Yes, each athlete has their own account and joins the group with an invite code or link. That way they see their calendar and log their own times and loads.
